RUF RT12

DETAILS

With the 2004 release of the new 997 platform, RUF introduced the RT12. A twin-turbocharged, 3.6 liter flat-six cylinder engine based on the previous 996 series Turbo engine provided 530hp and 560hp options, while a bored-out 3.8 liter option produced 685hp to 737hp depending on the trim level. Initially targeting clients looking for turbo power in the new 997 chassis, and later clients demanding more performance than the 997 Turbo and GT2.

The RT12 features specially developed RUF bodywork, giving the vehicle a unique appearance while functioning to increase down force, improving high-speed stability. Large cross-drilled brakes are included. For improved body control, RUF chose to replace the factory “active” suspension system with a static system of their own design. A RUF system with hydraulic control, developed together with Ohlins, which can raise ride-height in situations requiring more clearance is available as an option.

Optically, the RT12 can be best distinguished from the standard 997 Turbo by the air tunnels on the upper rear body supplying cooler air for the twin turbos. The RT12 was available in RWD with AWD available at an additional cost.

A further evolution of the RT12 was produced in the RT12S, and the even more aggressive RT12R for clients demanding peak performance.
