Based on the 964 Carrera, RUF built the RCT turbo engine with 370hp and maximum torque at 395lbft. This power unit was characterized by its smooth power development and high degree of engine flexibility in terms of smoothness, the engine felt almost like a 5-liter normally-aspirated engine. Use of Motronic and twin-plug ignition made the RCT engine very fuel efficient. The engine could be used in a rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configuration, in narrow or wide bodywork, and in coupe, cabriolet, or targa form. The RUF six-speed manual transmission was well matched to the engine, and could be combined with EKS. The suspension and brake system were modified in keeping with the higher engine output. Customers could choose between 17 inch and 18 inch RUF Speedline wheels. In narrow-body Carrera form, the RCT could accelerate to 62mph in about 4.5 seconds, and reach a maximum speed of 190mph.
