RUF R56-11 left rear

RUF R56.11

DETAILS

The R56.11 project, like much of the RUF projects, started in the mind of Alois Ruf Jr. He wanted to build his personal dream car. Taking the classic looks of the Porsche 356, the performance and drivability of the 911, and combining them into the perfect car. The result you see here, upon first look is clearly a 356.  But then you notice the details, and once you sit in the driver’s seat you know something very special has been created.  Not only can this creation keep up with an early 911, but it can actually out perform an a 911S in most contests.

The intimate character of the classic Porsche 356 and superb handling characteristics of the 911 are blended in this very special RUF sports car. The suspension, brakes, and steering are all derived from the 911. While the drivetrain is a combination of both models. The 5-speed gearbox from the first generation 911, with its sporty knife-through-butter shifting, and its dog-left shift pattern, further enhances the driving experience.

The flat-4 motor harks back to the 356 and 912, and is configured with dual overhead camshafts, while the pistons, cylinders, and cylinder heads are derived from the air-cooled 911. Essentially, it’s a 911 engine that’s been deprived of it’s two central cylinders. The intake sound of the pair of twin downdraft carburetors, the soaring revs, the extraordinary power in such a lightweight vehicle, it’s precise steering, the unyielding disc brakes – make this fabulous drip down memory lane an altogether memorable experience.
