The RUF 3600S represents the logical development of the 3400S. The water-cooled 3.6 liter engine, introduced with the 2002 model year 996 Carrera, proved to be the ideal power unit for installation in the Boxster. The engine developed 325hp and 273lbft. As an option, output could be uprated to 345hp.
Power was transmitted to rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. The sports suspension was lowered and fitted with Bilstein gas-pressure shock absorbers for firmer tuning. Instead of the standard Boxster S brake system, customers could opt for the larger Turbo brake system with its 330mm discs. Buyers could choose between the standard 18″ RUF modular wheels, or for an additional cost the RUF 19″ Alloy wheels. The 3600S was fitted with the round-bottomed turbo headlamp units, aero front spoiler, sills and RGT panels. At the rear, obvious changed included a diffuser and tailpipes exiting through the rear valance on either side of the number plate. Customers were free to configure the interior to suite their individual tastes.
Acceleration to 62mph took just 5.1 seconds, with a top speed of 173mph.
