The RUF 3400S was conceived for customers wanting an extremely powerful, open-top mid-engined car with abundant torque. The 3.4 liter 996 Carrera engine modified for an extra 10hp proved to be an ideal power source. The water-cooled boxer engine developed 310hp and 266lbft. A six-speed manual transmission was standard. The cars sports suspension was lowered and retuned with Bilstein gas-pressure shock absorbers. Instead of the standard Boxster S brakes, customers could opt for the optional more powerful 911 turbo brake system, with 330mm brake discs.
Optional standard 18″ RUF modular wheels, or the 19″ alloy wheels were available as an added-cost option. Body aerodynamics were optimized with the aero front spoiler, sills, RGT panels, and additional exterior modifications. The tailpipe of the high-performance exhaust system exited through the center of the rear valance. Finally a bespoke interior to the clients specifications to satisfy their individual tastes.
Acceleration to 62mph took only 5.2 seconds, and the top speed was 173mph.
